MÁRIA REHÁKOVÁ: TOPOĽANA (SK)

Encounter of jazz and Slovak folk melodies

London-based sextet, TOPOĽANA, is a jazz folk fusion ensemble that melds tradition with innovation. Drawing inspiration from her formative years in a Slovak folklore ensemble, TOPOĽANA transcends geographical borders, carving a distinct place within the London jazz scene. With a repertoire that bridges the gap between jazz's improvisational spirit and the melodies and rhythms of Slovak folk music, the sextet showcases emerging talents and captures the essence of Mária Rehaková's musical evolution. Their debut album “TOPOĽANA” was released on the 20th October 2023 and you can listen to it on all streaming platforms.

Mária's artistic narrative resonates beyond just sound, as she extends her creativity into visual realms. Collaborations with fellow artists, most notably her own father, painter Pavol Rehák, bring an additional layer of depth to her musical expression. With a dedication to sharing her unique cultural fusion, Mária's journey is a testament to the transformative power of music that bridges cultures and brings people together.
