KANAZOÉ ORKESTRA (FR/BF)

.

An explosive combination of balafon, African rhythms and modern jazz energy

Kanazoé Orkestra is one of the standout names on the contemporary African music scene, seamlessly bridging deep-rooted tradition with current global trends. In their work, the balafon (a wooden percussion instrument rooted in the griot culture of West Africa) meets genres such as afrobeat, amapiano, afro-trap, and contemporary electronic production. The result is a sound that is at once ritualistic and club-driven, hypnotic and physically compelling.

At the forefront is Seydou “Kanazoé” Diabaté - a virtuoso and successor to a strong lineage of griots from Burkina Faso. He approaches his instrument not only as a carrier of tradition, but as an open space for original creation and innovation. His playing is technically brilliant, rhythmically uncompromising, and deeply expressive.

From their debut Miriya (2015), widely recognized as one of the best African albums of the year, through Tolonso and Folikadi, to their latest release Balabeatz (2025), Kanazoé Orkestra have continuously developed their artistic voice while solidifying their presence on both the European and African scenes. Balabeatz most clearly reflects their current direction - blending traditional Manding structures with production inspired by today’s African club music.

Live, this energy transforms into an intense concert experience where virtuosity, groove, and dance-driven momentum merge into a single flow. Kanazoé Orkestra are not just a band - they are proof that tradition can be one of the most progressive tools in contemporary music.
