LIDOVĚK (CZ)

.

An original reinterpretation of Czech folk songs, mixing tradition with a modern sound

Lidověk is an original project by actor and musician Matěj Metoděj Štrunc, offering a contemporary interpretation of folk music in dialogue with modern production. Traditional melodies and lyrics about love, war, and hope are given a new sonic dimension - where cimbalom, violin, and acoustic instruments naturally meet drums, electronics, and a current production aesthetic.

The result is neither stylization nor nostalgia, but a living and authentic musical form that respects its source material while placing it firmly in a contemporary context. Štrunc approaches folk music as an open format, exploring its emotions, meanings, and resonance in today’s world.

The album Lidověk 2.0 continues this trajectory and expands it through collaborations with prominent figures of the Czech and international scene, including Hana Ulrychová, Markéta Irglová, and Jitka Čvančarová. The project has also gained international recognition, ranking among the top ten recordings in the AAA/Alternative category at the International Acoustic Music Awards.

Lidověk shows that folk music is not a closed chapter, but a living language - one that still has something to say today, with sensitivity, relevance, and without unnecessary pathos.
